Even though the PlayStation 5 has many excellent single-player games, multiplayer games make up the majority of the console’s selection and are becoming more and more popular with each passing year. Finding the finest online multiplayer PS5 games might be much more difficult than it should be these days since there are so many options.

The good news is that there is something for just about everyone, from sports simulators to high-octane shooters, thanks to this enormous diversity. The greatest PS5 multiplayer games stand out from the crowd with original gameplay mechanics, crisp graphics, and one-of-a-kind experiences that are simply unmatched elsewhere. However, sometimes they’re simply a lot of fun.

1. Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout

Developer Mediatonic
Publisher Epic Games
Release Date June 21, 2022
Metacritic Rating 81

When it came out in August 2020, Fall Guys caused a huge stir around the world. It was one of the free PS Plus games that month, which, along with the pandemic lockdowns, is a big reason why it became a huge hit so quickly. In the weeks and months that followed, interest did start to fade, but frequent updates and collaborations have helped to keep it alive.

Because of this, Fall Guys still has a pretty busy player group and can be played on all devices at the same time. Players usually get new rounds, skins, and game types with each new season. This gives them a lot of reasons to keep coming back. This charming battle royale game is also surprisingly easy to learn and play well. Both adults and children can enjoy and do well at it.

2. FIFA 23

Developer EA Vancouver
Publisher EA Sports
Release Date September 30, 2022
Metacritic Rating 76

FIFA 23 is the last game in EA’s long-running football series. It is also one of the best games in the series. The pictures are amazing, and HyperMotion 2.0 brings the movements to a level of reality that has never been seen before. At this point, the only way to get a more real football experience is to go outside with a ball.

Like the games that came before it, FIFA 23 has a lot of different game types, and most of them can be played both locally and online. This year’s version is also the first to include crossplay. Crossplay can sometimes cause connection problems, so players who don’t need it might want to turn it off in the settings menu.

3. Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0

Developer Infinity Ward
Publisher Activision
Release Date November 16, 2022
Metacritic Rating 79

Fans of Call of Duty have a lot of great games to choose from these days. Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 and this year’s yearly release are both great choices for people who want a great online multiplayer game. The second one has its good points, but most people will probably prefer to play Warzone because it has better game types and lasts much longer.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 is a great choice for fans of battle royale matches and fast-paced gunplay because it builds on what its predecessor did well. It looks great on platforms, and the gameplay is exactly what you’d expect from a game in this series. In its current state, it’s one of the best Call of Duty games and one of the best online multiplayer games for the Moto X3M.

4. Fortnite

Developer Epic Games
Publisher Epic Games
Release Date November 12, 2020
Metacritic Rating 78

Even though it may not have been the first game to use the battle royale format, Fortnite has done a lot to make it better. Since it came out in 2017, the game has been downloaded by hundreds of millions of people all over the world. This has made the company that made it, Epic Games, tens of billions of dollars.

The game’s popularity is due in large part to how easy it is to learn. People of almost any age can pick it up quickly. Regular content updates and partnerships with some of the biggest IPs in the world have helped the game stay popular for more than five years, and there are no signs that will change in the near future.

5. Gran Turismo 7

Developer Polyphony Digital
Publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment
Release Date March 4, 2022
Metacritic Rating 87

Gran Turismo 7 is the best driving game on the PS5, but there are many good ones. The latest game in this long-running series puts a lot of stress on how realistic everything looks and how the cars drive. When it comes to cars, there are more than 400 to choose from, so there is something for everyone.

Gran Turismo 7’s single-player mode can be a lot of fun, but the game really shines when you play with other people. Players can take part in regular events and challenges, and they have a great choice of real-world tracks to race on. Gran Turismo 7 is annoying because you have to play solo for a while before you can play with other people. Most of the time, though, this shouldn’t take more than an hour.

6. Destiny 2

Developer Bungie
Publisher Bungie
Release Date December 8, 2020
Metacritic Rating 85

Some people were afraid that when Destiny 2 became free-to-play, things might start to fall apart. That hasn’t happened though, with the game going from strength to strength over the past few years. Of course, it helps that Bungie keeps adding new features to the game, and at least one more patch is planned before the Light and Darkness Saga ends.

At a time when so many other live service games are failing, this game is a bright example of how the model should work. Every season has a little something new to give, so players never get bored with what’s available. Bungie does a pretty good job of balancing power creep too, which is somewhat impressive given how much emphasis is sometimes placed on grinding for rare loot.

7. Tetris Effect: Connected

Developer Stage Games
Publisher Enhance Games
Release Date February 22, 2023
Metacritic Rating 93

Whoever thought of making Tetris a game for more than one player gets a lot of praise. If it weren’t for them, puzzle game fans would never have known how satisfying it can be to use your brain while playing Tetris Effect: Connected online against friends or random people.

The game’s rules are surprisingly easy to understand, which makes it very easy to play, while the graphics and music can make the whole thing feel very grand. The game can even be played in virtual reality with a PSVR 2 gear, making it one of the best online group games for the PS5.

8. Street Fighter 6

Developer Capcom
Publisher Capcom
Release Date June 2, 2023
Metacritic Rating 92

Capcom was brave to be the first of the three biggest fighting game brands to release a new game after the PS4 came out. It was a move that paid off, though.Street Fighter 6 brings the series comfortably into the current age of home systems. When it came out, it felt much more finished than its predecessor, which came out in 2016.

Even though none of the tweaks and changes stand out on their own, they all come together to make a game that is easy for new and casual players to pick up and play while still feeling familiar to longtime fans of the series. If it gets even half as much care and attention after it comes out as Street Fighter 5 did, the new Tekken and Mortal Kombat games will have a lot of work to do.

9. Elden Ring

Developer FromSoftware
Publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment
Release Date February 25, 2022
Metacritic Rating 96

Elden Ring is not only one of the most interesting single-player games for the system, but it is also the best when it comes to online multiplayer. FromSoftware has always done a great job of making its Soulsborne games work well with multiplayer, and those who go into the Lands Between will find the same to be true.

Playing with other people can totally change the game, taking the attention off of being alone and making some boss fights much easier to handle. Of course, attackers could just as easily turn their guns on the player, giving Tarnished a chance to show their PvP skills. Depending on who they face, this could end up being more difficult than any of the hardest bosses in Elden Ring.

10. It Takes Two

Developer Hazelight Studios
Publisher Electronic Arts
Release Date March 26, 2021
Metacritic Rating 88

It Takes Two was made with multiplayer co-op in mind, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that the 2021 Game of the Year winner is one of the best online multiplayer PlayStation 5 games. It has a touching story, and the gameplay is a lot of fun. There are also a lot of great games that make the co-op experience even better.

It Takes Two is different from most other online games in that it can only be played with two people. People can download a special pass for the game that lets one person play for free as long as the person they are playing with also owns the game. So, two people can share the experience online, but only one of them has to spend money on a copy.
